Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Chief Secretary if he will consider introducing legislation to ban all striptease shows in Singapore; and if he will cause all existing licences issued to be withdrawn forthwith.
Mr E. B. David: Sir, such shows are already forbidden. The terms of the licences granted by the police to female actresses in Singapore preclude the removal of any clothing during the actual performances, or the making of any indecent or improper gesture, action or speech. The conditions of the licence also require that the actress herself is adequately clothed and that none of her clothes shall be transparent or flesh coloured.
Mr Lee Choon Eng: Sir, does not the Chief Secretary feel that strip-tease is a moral threat to the people of Singapore which initiated the statement by Mrs Shirin Fozdar?
Mr Speaker: It is a matter of opinion.
