COMMUNITY CENTRES (Exemption from Income Tax)

Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Financial Secretary, in view of the objects and activities of Community Centres, whether the Government will consider exempting all Community Centres from Income Tax.

Mr Hart: Sir, without knowing more than I do at present about the activities of the various community centres, the amount of funds available to them, and how these funds are spent, I regret that I am unable to give an answer to this question.

Mr Lee Choon Eng: Will the Financial Secretary agree to investigate into the activities of such centres and consider the exemption from income tax of such centres?

Mr Hart: I shall endeavour to do so if I can find time.
