Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing whether there is a shortage of land in the Colony which could be made available as burial grounds; and whether the Government will consider setting up a Committee comprising of dignitaries of all religious bodies to enquire into the question of introducing legislation to provide for the cremation of all dead bodies.

Inche Abdul Hamid: Mr Speaker, Sir, there is at present no shortage of land which could be made available as burial grounds.

With regard to the second part of the question, Government does not propose to consider setting up a committee as proposed by the hon. Member for Queenstown.

Mr Lee Choon Eng: Sir, since the Hon. the Minister says that there is no shortage of land available, can he tell us the number of acres of land that is available for burial of dead bodies?

Inche Abdul Hamid: That is a different question.
