Mr Lim Cher Kheng asked the Minister for Education if he will consider recognising an untrained teacher with ten years' teaching experience as equivalent in status to a normal-trained teacher.

Mr Chew Swee Kee: Obviously the Hon. Member for Changi is not aware of the fact that this question of untrained teachers with ten years' experience has been settled between me and the various Chinese educational bodies in one of our meetings and that it is the details of implementing that decision that have to be worked out.
