Mr Lim Cher Kheng asked the Minister for Education, in regard to pre-war teachers in Chinese schools who continued to teach in these schools after the war, if he will consider including their pre-war service in their record of service.

Mr Chew Swee Kee: Here again it seems that the Hon. Member for Changi is unaware of the fact that Government has decided that service before the war of teachers in Chinese schools will not be reckoned for incremental purposes in the revision of their salaries. A great deal of publicity was given to this issue in the Press some time last year when the Chinese educational bodies were informed of this decision.
